This is a garden to feed a family of four, focused on three pillars: highly perishable crops, non-meat sources of protein, and deeply colored fruits and vegetables for nutrition and calories.  All of the selected crops are fairly easy for beginners to grow and do not require special skills or equipment to preserve or store.  I have one version with a chicken coop/run/compost build, and one version without it for those that are not interested in chickens (or not interested in a building project).
