Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) posted a poll on X early Wednesday morning, asking users on the platform if failed House Speaker Mike Johnson should be reelected to serve another term as Speaker on January 3, 2025.
Poll respondents, most of whom are likely Republican voters, overwhelmingly called for Johnson to be removed from leadership.
This comes after Mike Johnson caved and made a backroom deal with Democrats late Friday on a government funding bill, which President Trump previously made several demands for. Trump's orders were not followed after Johnson's betrayal.
Earlier in the day Friday, Republican leaders were advancing a strategy involving three separate bills after the Democrats and some Republicans rejected a Trump-backed bill. The separate bill strategy "was approved," said Rep Cory Mills (R-FL). However, Johnson ultimately caved to Democrats' demands for an "all-in-one" bill, which passed with near-unanimous Democrat support.
Notably, more Democrats voted for the bill than Republicans.
Congressman Cory Mills (R-FL) spoke to The Gateway after he voted "no" on the measure, which passed with 196 Democrats and 170 Republicans voting in favor.
Johnson's betrayal of the GOP and President Trump was seemingly all for nothing too. As The Gateway Pundit reported, Hakeem Jeffries has made it clear that Democrats will not come to the rescue of Speaker Mike Johnson this time. Previously, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) filed a motion to vacate Johnson's speakership, expressing dissatisfaction with his decision to pass spending bills with Democrat support. The motion was successfully tabled with a vote of 359-43, with 163 Democrats and 196 Republicans supporting Johnson.
Thomas Massie and Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) cosponsored Greene's motion to Vacate earlier this year.
Massie asked X users if members should vote for Mike Johnson or "someone else." You can take the poll below:
