The Mexican military killed Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, known as "El Mencho," on Sunday with help from the United States in a large-scale operation targeting the drug kingpin.
El Mencho was the head of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and one of the world's most-wanted drug traffickers.
Following the killing, chaos erupted across Mexico, with the majority of the madness taking place in Puerto Vallarta.
Smoke pillowed into the air from numerous buildings in the bay and shootouts took place in the streets and a major airport.
