Bondi was scheduled to appear for a closed-door deposition next week; however, a spokesperson for the committee said the Justice Department announced she'll no longer testify since she was subpoenaed under her official capacity as attorney general, a designation she no longer holds.
"The Department of Justice has stated Pam Bondi will not appear on April 14 for a deposition since she is no longer attorney general and was subpoenaed in her capacity as attorney general," the spokesperson said, according to Axios.
Bondi was subpoenaed last month after the committee approved a motion brought by Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.), who last week demanded the former AG testify despite her firing.
"Pam Bondi will soon leave her job as the Attorney General," Rep. Mace wrote on X, adding, "My subpoena still stands. When the Oversight Committee moved to subpoena Bondi, I did it by name, not by or not as the sitting Attorney General of the U.S."
Rep. Mace on Wednesday reiterated that her subpoena mentioned Bondi by name and not her official title.
Ranking member Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) also fumed on X, saying that if Bondi didn't appear for her deposition then the committee would move to hold her in contempt, a move supported by Rep. Mace.
