Videos of a man standing behind Charlie Kirk before he was shot at Utah Valley University have gone viral as people were convinced he was giving mysterious "hand signals," but he has revealed the truth.
In the clips, a man wearing a white t-shirt, sunglasses and a hat puts his hand on his cap and tips it down, and people have been sharing theories that this is a military signal.
However, the man in question is actually Christian apologist, author, public speaker, and radio host Frank Turek. He is one of Charlie Kirk's friends who was there as part of his team, and he's shut down all allegations he was involved in the shooting down.
His team shared a statement on X on his behalf, writing: "The viral accusations against Dr. Frank Turek are categorically false. Dr. Turek was at Utah Valley University as part of Charlie Kirk's team, standing with him as a close friend and mentor.
"Their bond was marked by deep respect and unwavering support. Like everyone, we want Charlie's assassin brought swiftly to justice, but reckless and false accusations only distract from the truth and dishonor Charlie's memory."
The post included a video of the accused "hand signal" with a red arrow pointing to the hat and the words "false claim" in huge letters.
"Any claims suggesting that Frank was involved in this tragedy are entirely false. Frank was present and provided assistance during the incident. Frank and Charlie were close friends, and like all of us, Frank is deeply mourning this loss," his team also said.
They concluded by confirming that "out of Respect for the gravity of this tragedy," Frank Turek is not available for any media interviews.
Charlie and Frank were known to be good friends and appeared in public together many times, including discussing politics and morality on the Cross Examined podcast and on Kirk's own podcast The Charlie Kirk Show.
