So what are they doing? They are calling on their federal officials to do something to solve the problem. In the process, though, Americans decline to confront an important point: the affordability problem is rooted in the systems that the American people have bought into existence and to which they remain irrevocably committed.

The affordability problem means that people don't have enough money to pay for things they wish to buy. Their money just doesn't go as far as it used to go. There are various reasons for this phenomenon.

One reason is that the government takes an enormous chunk of people's money through income taxation, including the payroll tax. If people had been free to keep 100 percent of their income, say, for the past 10 years, that would mean a large sum of money that most people would have in savings right now.

Consider how much of the value of their income and savings people have lost in the last 10 years owing to monetary debasement at the hands of the Federal Reserve. That's because federal officials have inflated the money supply over that period of time in order to help pay the federal government's expenses.

Consider the enormously high tariffs that President Trump has been imposing on the American people since he took office. Those taxes suck a large amount of money from people's income and deposit it into the coffers of the federal government.

Why does the federal government do these three things? That's how it funds America's welfare-warfare state and all of the deadly, destructive, and very expensive departments, agencies, and programs that are so beloved to the American people.

After all, none of these things are free. They cost money—big money. The government has to pay for them. It pays for them with the money it raises in taxes—income taxes, the inflation tax (yes, inflation is a tax), tariffs, and other taxes.

Oh, I would be remiss if I failed to point out that another way that the feds pay the expenses of the welfare-warfare state, the regulated/managed society, and its deadly and destructive programs is through borrowing. That's what the $40 trillion national debt is all about. Reluctant to raise taxes to pay for their ever-growing expenses, federal officials simply go out and borrow the money. According to usdebtclock.org, the federal debt per taxpayer now amounts to $360,794. That's a considerable amount of debt per each American taxpayer.

Of course, there are any number of people who have long cried, "They need to cut spending!" But as we saw with DOGE, that's easier said than done. The reason? People on the dole will never let go of their dole, and they will fight fiercely to keep it.
