Otoy has explored Captain Kirk's afterlife following his death in "Star Trek: Generations" with a short film "765874: Unification" and Apple Vision Pro app. The short film utilizes facial scanning, computer graphics, and other technologies provided by Otoy.
Otoy has collaborated with William Shatner to create a new short film and an Apple Vision Pro app to commemorate the 30th anniversary of "Star Trek: Generations". Shatner plays Captain Kirk, who dies at the end of this film, marking the end of a long career in this franchise. The new short film "765874: Unification" takes place right after Kirk's death, and explores his afterlife.
The short film was made by Otoy using its LightStage scanning system to create CG versions of Kirk and others. The Academy Award-winning technology has also been used in "Star Wars: Rogue One" to capture facial data with high detail and accuracy. For Kirk, Shatner's likeness was digitally mapped onto actor Sam Witwer's performance through the company's digital prosthetic technology.
The computer graphics were rendered using Otoy's fast OctaneRender engine, which leverages Nvidia RTX GPU support for hardware raytracing acceleration, on a Render Network distributed cloud rendering network.
The Apple Vision Pro app provides an immersive experience, with interactive sets and props from "Generations" to explore, and a new twenty-minute film with William Shatner talking about his history with the Star Trek franchise.
The new short film "Unification" follows two prior short films, "Memory Wall", then "Regeneration". All three are presented below in order. Fans who want to revisit Captain Kirk's voyages can pick up the Star Trek 4K Blu-Ray movie sets (the first six films here and the next four here on Amazon) or simply "Generations" (here on Amazon).
