It was an amazing period — a small beacon of light shining through the darkness of economic oppression that had always characterized mankind.
Imagine: No income tax or IRS, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, welfare,
socialism, national-security state, Pentagon, CIA, NSA, FBI, gun control, drug
laws, government-managed economy, minimum-wage laws, paper money, Federal
Reserve, foreign interventionism, state-sponsored assassinations, coups, sanctions,
and embargoes, and virtually no controls on immigration, especially from Europe.
Sure, the statists were making inroads toward moving America in a different
direction — in the direction of the statism that has characterized societies
throughout history and has brought nothing but death, illness, poverty, misery, and
suffering to most everyone.
Nonetheless, in that relatively short period of time, our American ancestors pointed
the way to tremendous increases in people's standard of living, especially for those
at the bottom of the economic ladder, and to the benefits of a society based entirely
on family values and voluntary charity.
Today we live under a totally different system — one based on an oppressive
welfare-warfare state; an income tax and a tyrannical IRS; a dysfunctional
government-regulated economy; debased paper money and a Federal Reserve; a
vicious drug war; horrific foreign wars; a deadly immigration police state; and a
$39 trillion federal debt that eats out our substance.
But things can turn on a dime. The way I figure it is that if our American ancestors
could achieve economic liberty, so can we. And we can build on it. If nothing else,
we need to pass on the principles of economic liberty to future generations. We
must never let them be forgotten.
That's where The Future of Freedom Foundation comes into play. People need to
be constantly reminded of what freedom really means. That necessarily entails
raising people's vision to a higher level — toward such concepts as the separation
of economy and the state, the separation of money and the state, and the restoration
of a limited-government republic.
That's what we do here at FFF. It's what we have done for 36 years. We aren't
interested in settling for some version of warmed-over, reformed serfdom. We want
freedom — genuine freedom. We will never settle for anything less.
Here at midyear, I hope you will make a generous donation to FFF to assist us in
our efforts to put America back on the right trajectory — the trajectory toward
economic liberty — which will restore freedom, prosperity, and harmony to our
land.
