Russia just took operational control of Nestlé's factories and Auchan's stores inside Russia.

Not the global companies. The plants. The stores. The food system on the ground.

On September 17, 2026, Vladimir Putin signed a decree placing the Russian operations of Swiss food giant Nestlé and French retailer Auchan under temporary external administration. Management was transferred to a little-known Russian company, L.E.V. Management.

Moscow did not formally confiscate Nestlé or Auchan worldwide. It took control of the Russian businesses — the same mechanism used earlier on Danone and Carlsberg, where temporary administration later ended in a sale or transfer.

Nestlé has more than 7,000 employees and six factories in Russia. Those plants make coffee, pet food, and infant formula — not just candy. Auchan operates the stores. Production and distribution were hit in the same move.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov tied the action to what Moscow calls hostile steps by "unfriendly" countries supporting Ukraine. Food companies are no longer outside the confrontation.

This video is about the physical food system: factories, warehouses, ports, refineries, fertilizer, rail, and retail. A country can grow wheat and still have trouble feeding people if it cannot mill, process, package, or move it. A country can produce crude and still run short of diesel if the refineries cannot turn it into fuel.

Agricultural security is not just acres. It is who controls the chain when the border turns hostile.
