Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY) wrote an open letter to FBI Director Kashyap Patel questioning him about newly publicized surveillance footage that some argue provides an alibi for Brian Cole Jr.—the man accused of planting pipe bombs outside of the RNC and DNC headquarters the night before the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol Hill protest.
Massie further asked Patel to investigate a number of current or former law enforcement officials for their possible involvement in or knowledge of the pipe bomb case. Those officials include former ATF agent Ashan Benedict, who was the on-scene commander for the ATF on Jan. 6, 2021; Ronald Ridgley and Don Hankins, the two plainclothes Capitol Police officers who discovered the device near the DNC; Steven D'Antuono, who was in charge of the FBI's DC field office on Jan. 6; and the Secret Service agents who purportedly destroyed cell phone evidence from Jan. 6.
It is interesting to note that the two plainclothes Capitol Police officers, Ronald Ridgley and Don Hankins, did not search for the pipe bomb at the DNC, but found it with relative ease, leading reporter Steve Baker to suggest that they knew where the pipe bombs were planted.
.
A new video from the Capitol CCTV has been published that shows a figure walking on the northwest side of the Capitol at EXACTLY THE SAME TIME as the real suspect was distributing the pipe bombs on the southeast side of the Capitol. Journalist Steve Baker asserts that Mr. Cole could not have been the J6 pipe bomber and that this video provides and alibi for Cole, who is said to be autistic.
This week I requested FBI Director Kash Patel re-examine the January 6 pipe bomb case with a focus on the unlikely circumstances of the discovery of, and reaction to, the second pipe bomb. I first pointed this out to former FBI Director Wray in 2023. https://t.co/rYuOyh453N
