The Southern Poverty Law Center's (SPLC) "Year in Hate and Extremism" report, has named the largest conservative grassroots youth organization, Turning Point USA (TPUSA) a "hate group."
The Southern Poverty Law Center is comparing the largest conservative grassroots youth organization to the Ku Klux Klan, adding Turning Point USA to its "hate map" that plots KKK chapters and claims to expose "the groups upholding white supremacy in the United States."
The latest version of the SPLC hate map, released Thursday, lists Turning Point USA for the first time, categorizing the group as an "anti-government extremist group." The hate map also includes PragerU, a nonprofit that uses digital media to spread conservative ideas, putting it in the same category as Turning Point USA.
TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk joined Laura Ingraham with his reaction to the absurd claim.
Laura Ingraham: They've labeled Turning Point as a hate group.
Charlie Kirk: Yes.
Laura Ingraham: Coming from a hateful group like them.
Charlie Kirk: It's a surprise it took them so long to get us on the list.
Laura Ingraham: What took you so long, Charlie?
Charlie Kirk: Understand that they're literally putting high school chapters of ours on a hate group next to the KKK and next to neo-nazi groups. We can laugh this off. There's an element to this, remember that there was a shooter that went to the Family Research Council years ago, inspired by the SPLC list.
This is them trying to make us basically surrender at Turning Point USA. We're going to do the opposite, and our students are only going to lean in even more.
But they can't debate us on our ideas. They cannot have dialogue. They cannot actually go on to the merits of why they are right or why we might be wrong.
Instead, they must smear us with the age-old one-liner that you are a racist or that you are a hater. They're finally realizing the power of Turning Point USA, which is why they put us on this list.
Laura Ingraham: When you're effective, you're a threat.
