The United States has launched a major new campaign targeting Iran's global financial network, with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warning countries and entities that they have a "defined timeline" to halt activities Washington considers supportive of Tehran.

Bessent said the campaign aims to cut off the economic channels Iran uses to generate revenue, move oil and circument US sanctions, as Washington seeks to increase pressure on Tehran amid the prolonged conflict.

US targets Iran's economic lifelines

"Our objective is to sever every economic lifeline that sustains this tyrannical regime until Tehran stands alone," Bessent said while outlining the new pressure campaign.

He said Washington would target the networks that help Iran access funds, generate oil revenue and evade sanctions.

The campaign comes nearly six months into the conflict, which has reached a stalemate, according to US officials.
