It's very rare for politicians to cut their losses. The usual path is to make a bad decision (like starting a war with Iran) and then to pile more bad decisions on top. Meanwhile, the citizens are forced into a pressure cooker. Each bad decision increases the pain, until it becomes unbearable. President Trump could have cut his losses early. It would have stung, but by now, 7 months later, it would have been forgotten. Instead, the pressure on the American people continues to rise ... right before the midterms.
