The midterm elections have put some very extreme characters in positions of power — people who want men in women's sports and to help trans-children do the impossible, and to nationalize Starlink. The overconfident radical Islamist socialists have two years to unleash their inner desires, and overplay their hand. Two years to talk about Climate Change, carbon taxes, racism and transphobia. It will remind everyone why they needed MAGA in the first place.
But right now, President Xi will be happy. Whoever runs Iran will be too (up to a point). Iran served its purpose well. Is this the reason Xi sent missiles to Iran?
For the moment Donald Trump is still the most powerful man in America
He can issue executive orders to get many things done, and also reject legislation passed by Congress. As he says "Call me Mr Veto".
Republicans have lost at least 26 seats in the House and 7 Senate Seats so far. It was a wipe out and especially so in Texas. But for perspective, Bill Clinton suffered even bigger losses in his first midterm election — dropping 54 seats in the House and 8 senate seats in November 1994. Republicans gained both the House and Senate for the first time in 40 years. It was called a "Republican Revolution", but Clinton went on to win a second term just two years later. Not having control of either house didn't stop Clinton launching a 78 day war in Yugoslavia.
Victor Davis Hanson, below in the video, points out that Obama and Clinton both suffered big losses in the second half of their terms after terrible midterm losses, and despite that, they both pretty much kept doing what they wanted to do anyway. And they both left office with high approval ratings, despite the losses.
Trump won't be able to appoint cabinet members or judges after January 3 when the new congress is sworn in. He certainly won't get legislation passed, but then it appears he hardly got anything passed anyway — like the SAVE AMERICA ACT, even when Republicans controlled the House and the Senate. It would have ensured voter ID but apparently some Senators on both sides didn't want that.
