President Donald Trump confirmed Wednesday that FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino will leave his administration role in order to 'go back to his show.'
The change will occur in coming weeks, according to multiple media reports.
Bongino has started boxing up 'knick-knacks' from his office in Washington, DC, and sending them back to Florida, where he plans to return to work as a pro-Trump broadcaster ahead of the midterm elections, sources told The New York Times.
The former podcaster and Fox News host gave up a lucrative media career earlier this year to join the Trump administration.
However, his brief tenure has been marked by a public ambivalence about the role, as well as internal clashes with colleagues including Attorney General Pam Bondi over her handling of the Epstein files.
'Dan did a great job, I think he wants to go back to his show,' Trump told reporters Wednesday, speaking as if Bongino's tenure had already concluded.
