The members of Iran's UNGA delegation were asked to leave the country last Monday after the end of the United Nations meeting, but allegedly did not do so.
It is unclear where the unnamed Iranian diplomats were residing in New York, or how they were forcibly removed after failing to follow the directive.
A State Department official noted: 'Secretary Rubio means business.
'Two more members of the Iranian delegation were found still in New York long after the UN General Assembly had passed.
'They have now been kicked out of the country,' the official stated, according to Axios.
In a Sunday post on X, the Iranian Foreign Affairs Minister Abbas Araghchi offered a different explanation for the departures.
'All Iranian diplomats who attended UNGA, except one who departed earlier, left as scheduled,' Araghchi shared.
'Taking pride in fake diplomat 'expulsion' is inappropriate for the head of any diplomatic corps. It oozes of desperation and defeat, and is inconsistent with UN host nation obligations,' he added.
Amid the US war with Iran, Americans have severely limited the ability of Iranians to be present in the country.
Back in July, as the United States hosted the World Cup with Canada and Mexico, Donald Trump warned the Iranian team not to come – for their 'own life and safety', while the team moved its base from Arizona to Mexico.
Nearly a dozen members of its delegation were later denied visas for the competition.
On Sunday, Iran vowed to keep the Strait of Hormuz shut unless the US meets its demands, with Tehran warning there is 'no military solution' to the situation.
The Islamic Republic said the US needs to comply with 'seven conditions' that it set out in an agreement in June, insisting the country's position remains 'completely clear and firm'.
The closure of the key strait in the Persian Gulf has led to huge spikes in global oil prices, with shortages seeing the cost of diesel rise astronomically.
