Arkansas Republican Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has implemented a new rule for Medicaid recipients in her state requiring them to work, volunteer, or go to school for at least 80 hours per month unless they are in the exempt category [pregnant women, disabled veterans, caregivers, and those with special medical needs].
Gov. Huckabee Sanders appears in an advertisement that depicts a lazy young white man eating cheese balls as an able-bodied person eligible to work, but chooses not to enter the work force. Young white males are not the largest recipients of Medicaid benefits; female-headed households and black residents show higher involvement in welfare overall.
The Republican party has already taken a deadly blow in the mid-term elections with Trump's unpopular war in Iran. The Republican Governor is piling on by posting this ad and refusing to back down. She is seeking a second term in the 2026 election and her tone-deaf response will affect the election.
In an apparent attempt to damage the Republican brand even more than President Donald Trump has with his unconstitutional war in Iran, GOP Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders of Arkansas has posted a campaign ad to social media that depicts young white men as the typical welfare recipients in her state.
Sanders is touting her welfare-to-work program that applies to Medicaid recipients who aren't working but can do so. But unhappily for the 44-year-old governor, who seeks her second term, the data show that young white men aren't those who typically shirk employment to sit on welfare.
Reaction on social media was swift. Human Events' Jack Posobiec called upon the governor to apologize, while commentator Matt Walsh and others accused the GOP of not having the courage to post a similar ad with a black woman as the welfare fraudster.
Like most mulish Republicans, Sanders stood her ground and refused to back down.
