The Nasdaq-listed company launched Perfecta into selected Northeastern U.S. retail outlets on September 3, with distribution supported by major natural and specialty foods distributor KeHE Distributors. The initial line includes plant-based Marbled Steak, Filet Mignon, Chicken Breast, Salmon Patties and White Fish Patties.
The significance lies partly in the format. Steakholder has spent several years developing production technologies capable of creating fibrous structures, whole-cut shapes and marbling characteristics rather than relying predominantly on the burgers, nuggets, sausages and minced-meat formats defining plant-based meat's first major growth cycle. Its technology platform includes industrial meat and fish printing systems together with proprietary ingredient premixes.
Perfecta therefore arrives with a straightforward proposition: if consumers became disappointed with plant-based meat because it didn't eat sufficiently like meat, make the product fundamentally better.
