Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has ordered military commanders across the country to set aside an entire day for America's service members to register, obtain absentee ballots and cast their votes ahead of the November midterm elections.
On Friday, Secretary Hegseth ordered commanders across the Department of Defense to designate a mandatory, one-day military "stand-down" prior to October 15.
The order is designed to give service members and their families the necessary time to register to vote, request absentee ballots, and cast their votes ahead of the crucial upcoming midterm elections.
In a video statement posted on X, Hegseth explained that voting for military personnel has been "time-consuming and complex," as service members face unnecessary difficulties obtaining and returning absentee ballots while serving far from home.
I am directing all commanders and supervisors at every level to conduct a one-day stand-down in the month of October. Every warrior will be given the opportunity to vote. https://t.co/OpyVBiemkc
