HOUSE SHOCKWAVE: H.R. 10326 passes 217–207, giving federal fraud investigators sweeping access to state records involving Medicaid, SNAP, unemployment, COVID funds, disaster aid and more if the bill becomes law.
A major anti-fraud bill has cleared the U.S. House of Representatives, opening the door to a sweeping new federal information-sharing system designed to track alleged fraud involving taxpayer-funded programs across the country.
The PROOF Act — Preventing Rip-offs and Obtaining Oversight of Funds Act, H.R. 10326 — passed the House 217–207 and has now moved to the Senate Judiciary Committee. If enacted, the legislation would require the head of a state agency administering covered federal programs to provide information requested in writing by the Attorney General when that information is needed to investigate or prosecute alleged fraud.
